Kami in Moreno Valley Unified School District. An Empirical Education Evidentially Correlational Report
Empirical Education Inc.
Empirical Education recently completed a study evaluating the implementation of Kami in Moreno Valley Unified School District. Kami is a productivity platform that students and teachers use to create, share, annotate, and collaborate on documents across all subject areas and grade levels. The correlational study was conducted using data from the 2022-23 school year and examined the association of Kami usage on student achievement for students in grades two through eleven using the STAR Reading (STAR) assessment. Over 15,000 students across 36 schools in the district used Kami during the study period. There were three main findings from the study: There was a significant positive association between the use of Kami and student outcomes on the STAR Reading test. Daily use of Kami during the school year is associated with a 4 percentile test score gain. The association between Kami usage and student achievement was greater for English language learners (ELL) compared to non-ELL students. There were no significant differences between students of different races/ethnicities. This study adds to a growing body of evidence demonstrating promising evidence of the effectiveness of Kami for student literacy achievement.
