In an age defined by rapid technological change, geopolitical upheaval, and post-pandemic realities, education and lifelong learning systems must adapt to meet shifting societal and labour market needs. As globalisation deepens connections between societies, economies, and cultures, education needs to balance promoting national identities with global outlooks. But how should global education evolve to equip individuals with the skills, knowledge and mindsets needed to navigate an unpredictable future? This question was central to the European Training Foundation's (ETF) event in Turin on 5 July 2024, part of its 'navigating the future' series. The discussion explored education's role in building inclusive, resilient societies. This policy briefing outlines a strategic approach to global education, developed by the ETF in collaboration with other development partners, international organisations, and country representatives. It argues for a coordinated, global lens to help partner countries, with the ETF's support, to develop robust and resilient education and training systems that drive local prosperity while enhancing global competitiveness. The brief synthesises insights from the event, reviews international trends and identifies opportunities for dialogue and collaboration as the ETF transitions from vocational education and training (VET) to a broader focus on skills development and global education.
