Qualitative Descriptive Study of Third World Students in a California College Who Have Studied in Iraq Universities and Their Perceptions of E-Learning

While e-technology plays an important role in education, there have been some countries that have not yet utilized e- technology to reform their education goals and meet the global standards as other advanced countries. As of today, in many less developed countries such as Iraq, faculty members support traditional styles of teaching and do not have the proper access to the use of e-learning. Iraq has failed to promote, accept and use new technologies when it comes to education. The goal of this qualitative, case study was to investigate the perspectives of Iraqi students who have studies in Iraq and currently enrolled in one college in California on e-learning. Since Iraq was categorized low on the Human Development Index in the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The Human Development Index provides expectancy, education and per capita income indicator that are used in ranking countries. The technology acceptance models (TAM) were used for this purpose. Purposeful methods produced a sample size of 15 participants from a single community college in San Diego, California. Two research questions were used as the core of the research study. This study introduced three themes for research question one (leadership issues, group dynamics, and political stands) for the second research question, it produced three themes (ownership issues, language barriers, and learning issues). Several recommendations for future research included: (a) the need to address leadership issues, (b) the need to develop government policies to promote e-learning in Iraq, (c) the need for training and development programs for teachers and students to promote the adoption of e-learning in Iraq, (d) to enhance the generalizability and transferability of the findings, further research should be conducted using data across diverse study settings.
