ProQuest LLC, D.Ed. Dissertation, University of Louisiana at Lafayette
This paper presents a comprehensive research project aimed at investigating the transitional supports necessary for nontraditional students both prior to and following their entry into higher education. The overarching research question guiding this study is, in which states does the YouthBuild Program appear to be most effective? This research focused on analyzing data to understand the effectiveness of interventions aimed at addressing the distinct challenges faced by nontraditional students. These students are characterized by a diversity in age ranges, employment statuses, family responsibilities, and varied educational backgrounds, which collectively contribute to unique obstacles in accessing and succeeding in higher education. The study aimed to shed light on these issues through a comprehensive data analysis, with the goal of proposing effective policy solutions. The anticipated outcome of this research includes not only a series of evidence-based policy recommendations aimed at enhancing enrollment, retention, and academic success among nontraditional students but also a predictive analysis of the potential impacts of such policies. Through the careful examination of data, this study aims to provide forecasts that will inform higher education institutions and governmental entities, guiding them to foster a more inclusive, supportive, and adaptive educational environment.
