Examining the Differences in the Role of the School Psychologists: An Ohio Study

The Model for Comprehensive and Integrated School Psychological Services, also known as the NASP Practice Mode represents NASP's official policy regarding the delivery of school psychological services and outlines 10 different domains of practice. Although school psychologists are trained to provide services involving these 10 different domains, previous literature has found that some school psychologists' range of practice may be limited to evaluations for special education in some practice settings. The current study describes data from a survey created to poll school psychologists that work in urban, suburban, and rural public schools in the state of Ohio and found statistically significant differences between these district types, specifically in the frequency of which they provide mental health services and the confidence that they have in their knowledge of tiered systems and consultation. Commensurate with previous literature, this data also shows that a majority of respondents indicated report writing and psychoeducational assessment as the activity that takes up a majority of their time.
