Equity and Access for Students with Disabilities: The Role of Implicit Bias and Oppression
Andrea Dawn Townsend
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Miami University
Implicit bias is a part of daily decision making and may impact a teacher's assumptions about educating students with disabilities. The concept of implicit bias has moved into the mainstream of discussions regarding equitable access to educational opportunities and resources. This study works to uncover some of the factors impacting implicit biases regarding students with disabilities in teachers. It uses findings of the Implicit Attitudes Test (IAT) to identify implicit biases combined with participant interviews to reveal the origins of these biases in an effort to uncover how implicit biases can be impacted.
