Living on vs. Off-Campus: An Evaluation of Campus Participation for Students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Enrolled in Inclusive Higher Education
Aryn Taylor
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The University of Arizona
The purpose of this program evaluation project was to examine how type of housing impacted campus participation and educational outcomes in students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) enrolled in an inclusive higher education (IHE) program. The participants were college students with IDD who completed postsecondary coursework in an IHE program in Colorado. The goals of the project were to (a) explore how a student's type of housing impacted their campus participation and (b) examine if educational outcomes differed depending on the student's type of housing. The independent variables were type of housing (independently on-campus or with family off-campus). The dependent variables were campus participation, credits earned each semester, and grade point average (GPA). The data was used to inform the evaluation of the IHE pilot program in Colorado and improve inclusion and independent living outcomes for students with IDD.
