The Use of Self-Completed Online Questionnaires with Children and Young People to Evaluate the Impact of an Environmental Citizen Science Project. Sage Research Methods Cases Part 2

Sage Research Methods Cases
Open Air Laboratories is a citizen science project that provides environmental monitoring resources that can be used by schools for experiential learning to support the science curricula. This pilot research project aimed to use a self-completed online questionnaire to assess children's views of the value of Open Air Laboratories experiential environmental monitoring activities for learning science, attitudes toward science, and care for the environment. Owing to time limitations, only one intervention activity was completed by the participants, and although positive changes in attitudes are recorded, they lack significance. It is suggested that a more sustained (and preferably embedded) intervention is required to measure the impacts in a more reliable and valid way.
