Perception of Teacher Creativity and Principal Transformational Leadership Behaviors in Elementary Schools
Zachary Wade Fredstrom
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to examine the relationship between perceived principal transformational leadership behaviors and teacher creativity among certified elementary school teachers from a large suburban school district in Arizona. It was unknown if and to what extent a relationship existed between elementary principal transformational leadership behaviors and the creativity level of certified teachers as perceived by the teachers. The theoretical framework for transformational leadership was measured by the Global Transformational Leadership Scale of Carless, Wearing, & Mann. The framework for teacher creativity was measured by the Employee Creativity Scale of George & Zhou. These two frameworks and the literature gap provided two research questions. The first research question examined the relationship between teachers' perception of transformational leadership behaviors and their own creativity. The second research question examined the relationship between the seven transformational leadership behaviors and teacher creativity. A convenience sample of 106 teacher participants completed both surveys, and the data was analyzed using Kendall's tau-b correlations. Post hoc analysis and adjusted results showed all investigated relationships between teacher perception of principal transformational leadership behaviors and their creativity as undetermined. Recommendations for future studies and implications are discussed. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
