Factors Influencing Creative Achievement
Hyeri Park
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Georgia
Although a great deal of research has been conducted examining the relationship of domain knowledge or creative potential and creative achievement, there is still a lack of research on more comprehensive understanding on how much each of potential factors is related to individual's creative achievement. The current studies aimed to investigate potential factors influencing creative achievement based on Amabile's (1983) componential theory of creativity framework. The first study examined potential influence of domain-relevant skills (domain knowledge) and creativity-relevant processes (creative potential) on everyday creativity and creative achievement (quantity and quality) among STEAM major undergraduate Korean students. The results indicated that creative-relevant skills (creative potential) would enhance everyday creativity and creative achievement regardless of any field of domain knowledge. The second study extended to examine the mediating role of everyday creativity in the relationship between personality factor (openness to experience), task motivation (intrinsic motivation) and creative achievement by comparing two different cultures. The study found the mediating role of everyday creativity and different direct and indirect path between two cultures. The result implied that the role of everyday creativity is vital to be able to reach individual's actual creative achievement.
