Jeremy Schaaf
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Aurora University
This quantitative, correlational study examined the technology leadership skills of principals within the state of Illinois based upon demographic, grade-level, and cross categorical tabulations to determine technology domain competency. Data was collected using the TELECOM-EDAD scale, which was distributed through an electronic survey. Over 4,000 principals were surveyed with 915 respondents. The respondents were members of the Illinois Principal Association and were active principals based upon their membership database. This study utilized descriptive statistics and both one- and two- way MANOVAs to test differences in the means of several variables simultaneously. This study hypothesized that principal leadership, in the form of teacher professional development, would increase the level of instructional technology integration in the classroom. The study also examined the digital leadership actions of principals and whether these actions promoted and encouraged teacher participation in instructional technology professional development, furthering instructional technology integration in the classroom through the five domains of TELECOM-EDAD scale. This study also examined the factors that may influence components of integration based upon geographic location, age, gender, race/ethnicity, and grade level of the school. The TELECOM-EDAD scale aligns with ISTE standards for administrators, allowing principals to specifically identify their technology competencies with established set of standards. Principals identified Digital Citizenship and Digital Culture as specific competencies of strength, while Visionary Leadership was identified as a competency requiring growth. Statistically significant differences were found for race/ethnicity and grade level. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
