Scott Z. Hazan
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Northeastern University
The purpose of this research was to investigate how leaders may perceive followers within an organization using the Narcissistic Personality Inventory and implicit followership theory. These findings will help student affairs professionals to understand better the leader-follower relationship among college students. The literature review will analyze the significant concepts of followership theory to gain a better understanding of the relationship between follower and leader. Evaluating current models of leadership development programs being implemented on college campuses will help to further identify why student leaders may make assumptions about the role of the follower and why they may have difficulty putting theory into practice. Additionally, researching narcissism traits will help professionals to recognize influences that may affect the leader-follower relationship. Gaining a clearer understanding of these areas will shed light on how levels of narcissism may contribute to how student leaders value the role of the follower. This investigation will further understanding of the leader-follower relationship and how current student leaders may have difficulty leading under a followership model.
