The Challenges Facing Special Needs Students in Education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

The problem that was addressed in this study was the educational challenges that special needs students face in education in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This study also gathered more information on the gap between the regulations put down regarding the special needs education and what is implemented in the schools. This study used the Social Constructivist Theory. In the context of this study, special needs students have their different rates or speeds of understanding things, as the Social Constructivist Theory puts it, every child has their own pace of learning. Hence, they need not be pressurized in any way but left to understand issues at their paces. Going with the Social Constructivist Theory, special needs students have special cognitive abilities that need special attention for greater understanding of education. This study used a qualitative research and the phenomenological design was chosen over other types of designs for this study. The population for this study was different teachers from different schools and different special needs students who are studying in different special need school. The researcher used the online surveys as the primary data collection instrument to gather data from the targeted population. The data were analysed according to emerging themes from responses that will be obtained from each respondent. The responses obtained from the respondent were uploaded in the NVivo software for preparation for coding and qualitative analysis of the research data. Interpretive approach and thematic analysis were used to analyze the data collected. The findings of the study showed that special needs students are facing a lot of challenges educational opportunities being one of the major challenges in the education sector. Most schools are characterized by inadequate systems and facilities and respond to the challenges special needs students face. This study's findings revealed that the government should prioritize special needs learning to help learners with a disability achieve their educational goal.
