The Challenges of Mixed-Methods Research Design: Evaluating Early Literacy Interventions for Young Children in Low-Income, Latino Families. Sage Research Methods Cases Part 1
Deanne R. Pérez-Granados; Lynne C. Huffman
Sage Research Methods Cases
The Technology, Literacy, and Caring project was a longitudinal, intervention evaluation study assessing the degree to which two home-based interventions promoted positive parent--child book-sharing interactions, child development, and infant-toddler emergent literacy skills for low socioeconomic status, Latino families. Data collection for the Technology, Literacy, and Caring project was complex--a 4-year endeavor that involved 188 participant families, 13 interview and questionnaire measures, two observation coding schemes, hundreds of individual variables, a team of 18 researchers, and thousands of hours of effort. This case study offers a reflective and critical analysis of decisions and experiences related to the project's research design and methodology. [This content is provided in the format of an e-book.]
