The problem addressed in this study is that the potential roles of an artificial intelligence-enhanced chatbot using big data in e-learning in higher education were not widely documented in the research community. The purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the potential roles of an artificial intelligence-enhanced chatbot using big data in e-learning in higher education. The research question was regarding the potential roles of an artificial intelligence-enhanced chatbot using big data in e-learning in higher education? Data collected from the Engineering and Computer Science Faculty group were coded into themes. Thematic analysis was performed (Yin, 2011). The first major theme was as follows: benefits to professors. Three subthemes appeared from the analysis: a) Important artificial intelligence, b) skill, and c) help for the faculty. The second major theme was as follows: benefits to students. Two subthemes appeared from the analysis: a) helpful, b) global information. The third major theme was as follows: ease of technology vs. use. Three subthemes appeared from the analysis: a) conversational response, b) advancement, knowledge, and integration into chat, and c) helpful.
