"Sacred Mission: A Study of Hiring for Mission in Catholic Schools via Self-Described Hiring Practices of Administrators" is a doctoral problem-based learning project examining the value of hiring for mission through a study of Catholic school administrators' self-described hiring practices and the correspondence between these self-described practices and the best hiring practices in schools. The project team piloted an exploratory phase with extensive reading of Church documents, research related to mission and vision, the characteristics of the Catholic educator, and best hiring practices in schools. The project team investigated the extent to which administrators and faculty within the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston and the Archdiocese of St. Louis, among a handful of other Catholic schools across the nation, perceive hiring-practice effectiveness in their schools. The project team sought to identify what constitutes effective best practices for hiring in Catholic schools given the unique nature, identity, and purpose of Catholic education. The study wished to determine administrator beliefs, knowledge, and attitudes about these practices. This research has implications for the Catholic school as a unique mission-driven organization and the hiring practices associated with identifying educators who match this mission.
