A Quantitative Study of Alumni Donor Characteristics: An Exploration of Donor Giving Motives through the Lens of Philanthropic Social Exchange Theory
Stephannie Gauthier Ruiz
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D.(Educ.) Dissertation, University of Louisiana at Lafayette
This dissertation aims to explore the donor characteristics at a large southern public doctoral granting university. The goal is to better understand alumni donor motives and the changing intrinsic needs of the donor across generations. Economic and philosophical theories including Social Exchange Theory, Warm Glow, and Recognition Theory will be reviewed from the exchange philanthropy perspective. The changing generational donor characteristics in respect to gift-giving behavior will be reviewed to better assess the fit of an alumni association model in relation to the current and next generation of alumni donors.
