Predicting Turnover Intention in Female High School Principals

ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
The purpose of this quantitative correlational predictive study was to examine if and to what extent perceived organizational support (POS) and perceived social support (PSS) predicted turnover intention in female high school principals in the United States. The sample consisted of 88 female high school principals in the United States. The theories of organizational support, social support, and turnover intention provided the theoretical framework for this quantitative study. The Survey of Perceived Organizational Support 8-item measured perceived organizational support. The Multidimensional Survey of Perceived Social Support 6-item version measured perceived social support. The Turnover Intention Scale 6-item version measured turnover intention. The multiple regression correlations identified significant relationships supporting the alternative hypotheses for research questions zero and one. POS and PSS, together, predicted turnover intention in female high school principals (F(2, 85) = 44.53, p < 0.001, R[superscript 2] = 0.51, adj. R[superscript 2] = 0.50). Additionally, there was a significant relationship between POS and turnover intention p < 0.001 ([beta] = -0.679, t = -8.629, p < 0.001, 95% CI [-0.44, -0.27], f[superscript 2] = 0.956). The results of the multiple regression indicated that PSS did not predict turnover intention in female high school principals p = 0.077 ([beta] = -0.14, t = -1.799, p = 0.077, 95% CI [-1.49, 0.08], f[superscript 2] = 0.075); therefore, the results failed to reject the null hypothesis for the final research question.
