Type two diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a public health problem in the United States. It is estimated that 34 million people in the United States have diabetes. The increased prevalence in adults is associated with lifestyle behaviors such as physical inactivity. The purpose of this study was to establish the impact of a telehealth education program on health outcomes of the adult population with T2DM. A quasi-experimental and quantitative study design was used. The study included 18 participants, including 11 females and eight Hispanics. Five participants had some college-level education, and 11 lived below the poverty level. Ten participants were married and had at least one comorbidity, respectively. The telehealth education program improved T2DM outcomes for the participants. Paired t-tests established a statistically significant difference for BMI, weight, and blood sugar for pre and post-intervention phases. The study found a significant difference in average blood sugar for pre-intervention and post-intervention phases. The results were statistically significant at alpha 0.005. The findings suggest that telehealth education is a cost-effective approach to improve care outcomes for adults with T2DM. The approach eliminates barriers to care access and maximizes community outreach. The APRN-led telehealth education initiative streamlines the decision-making process since telehealth supports data-driven and analytical intelligence that APRNs use to arrive at an accurate decision that is backed by evidence-based knowledge.
