Program Evaluation of a Behavior Training Initiative Following the Implementation Science Model: Issues for School-Based Consultants
Rachel A. Wingfield
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Central Arkansas
Teachers have a tremendous responsibility of educating students on academic skills as well as supporting their social development. Some students do not have the ability to manage their disruptive behavior, ultimately causing more discipline referrals and stress on the classroom teacher. To aid in the implementation of evidence-based practices within schools to support teachers, behavior training programs, such as the BX[superscript 3] initiative provided professional development and follow-up coaching to increase teachers use of evidence-based practices. The BX[superscript 3] initiative followed the Implementation Science framework to support BX[superscript 3] initiative providers' training and evaluation efforts. Results indicated implementation team members' knowledge of behavioral principles increased and follow-up coaching sessions benefitted teams. Overall, participants' attitudes toward behavior modification remained neutral throughout the initiative, with more positive attitudes reported by special education teachers. Implications for school-based consultants providing training within schools is provided. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
