Experiences of Transitional Support for First-Generation African American Male Students Entering Higher Education
Tiesha E. Alston
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Sam Houston State University
This qualitative phenomenological study will examine the experiences of first-generation African American male students' transitional support into higher education at a 4-year university. Existing research in this area suggest transitional support and college preparation are vital components of academic success. However, research is limited on the impact of transitional support or experiences of first-generation African American male students entering higher education. The current goal of this research study is to gather data to help identify the existing gaps in literature by better understanding the views and experiences of first-generation African American male students using transitional support.
