Liberatory Praxis: Developing Culturally Sustaining Global Engagement at a Two-Year Minority Serving Institution

The study examined the best practices in developing successful culturally responsive and sustaining global education curricular and co-curricular programming at an urban community college as an aspect of liberatory praxis. Specifically, this study examined the impact of the student Global Ambassadors and Global Summit on increasing students' global competencies, self-perceptions, and interests in civic engagement as part of increasing comprehensive internationalization. The recommendations for future program improvements include sustaining and expanding the number of courses and co-curricular experiences while strategizing how to maximize student involvement providing meaningful and culturally responsive and sustaining student global learning and leadership opportunities; continuing data and evolving scholarship to inform future practice; providing institutional commitments for a solid infrastructure for comprehensive internationalization is essential; increasing intentional programmatic commitment to social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and global competence.
