An Interpretive Inquiry into the National College for Education Leadership Instructional and Transformational Training Program in Preparing Principals to Become Transformative Leaders in Jamaica

This study examines the impact of the National College for Education Leadership's (NCEL) instructional training program on Jamaican school principals' transformational leadership skills. Using Instructional and Transformational Leadership theories, the study investigates how the NCEL program influences principals' leadership styles, organizational culture, mission and vision definition, instructional program management, performance, and fostering a transformative learning environment. The study also explores the perceived strengths and limitations of the program from the perspective of participating principals. Through interviews and document analysis, the study employs a thematic framework and interpretive lens to uncover patterns, themes, and lived experiences of the principals. The data analyzed revealed that the NCEL training program greatly improves Principals' abilities in instructional and transformational leadership approaches by promoting professional development and creative leadership. Participants noted enhancements in their capacity to mentor and advise teachers, underscoring the significance of proficient instruction and curriculum execution. The program results further revealed aims to develop leaders capable of inspiring change, fostering innovation, and establishing a robust educational community. It addresses the demand for ongoing professional growth and efficient leadership methods in the educational field. NCEL training fosters a healthy school atmosphere and ethos with a focus on transformational leadership and establishing a supportive environment. The program based on the participants enhances the clarity of their school's mission and vision by engaging in cooperative goal-setting and strategic curriculum development.
