Enhancing Equity: A Comprehensive Examination of Disability Access, Inclusion, and Policy in Select R1 Institutions
Allison Lyon Comeaux
ProQuest LLC, D.E. Dissertation, University of Louisiana at Lafayette
This study addresses the need for policy change based on best practices in post-secondary education for students with disabilities. The implementation of federal policies must be reviewed to increase retention and student success for students with disabilities. This research analysis is grounded in social and Disability Diversity DisConnect models and identifies barriers and best practices that impact these students. This is a document analysis analyzing federal policies and best practices to identify gaps and create best practices. By investigating the question, "how do universities align, implement, and communicate their disability policies based on federal policy and best practices for hidden disability student populations?" This study seeks to compare R1 university policies in search of best practices that can be translated to a model disability policy that exceeds students' needs in post-secondary education.
