An Investigation into the Compensatory Strategies of a Child with Language Disorders
Amanda B. Percle
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Louisiana at Lafayette
This dissertation is a qualitative study investigating changes in compensatory strategies over time. More specifically, this study analyzed post hoc data spanning the course of 10 years. To address such a complex phenomenon as compensatory strategies, it was necessary to choose appropriate methodologies in driving the data analysis. These methods, described in detail, allowed a means of answering the complex questions posed in this paper. The patterns identified and described in the following sections reveal processes of ongoing construction and evolution of compensatory behaviors by a child with language disorders. This ongoing process of strategy construction reveals not only the inherent strengths of children with language disorders, but the wonderfully unique ways in which children present themselves in a light of competence.
