Qualitative Examination of Women Student Affairs Professionals' Perceptions of Job Satisfaction in Louisiana Public Higher Education Institutions

This study utilized a phenomenological qualitative research design to assess job satisfaction of women student affairs professionals in Louisiana at entry, mid, and senior levels positions. The purpose of this research was to examine perceptions of women student affairs professionals in Louisiana higher education institutions regarding: (1) job satisfaction and leadership; (2) job satisfaction and motivation; (3) job satisfaction and productivity; and (4) job satisfaction and burnout. The overarching question of this study was, "What are the perceptions of women student affairs professionals in Louisiana public-higher education institutions regarding job satisfaction in relation to leadership, motivation, productivity, and burnout?" The researcher identified five major findings. Major Finding 1: women student affairs professionals are not paid adequately for the expectations placed on them. Major Finding 2: the COVID pandemic increased burnout among women student affairs professionals in Louisiana. Major Finding 3: high levels of trust result in higher job satisfaction. Major Finding 4: women student affairs professionals are highly motivated by student impact. Major Finding 5: Senior women student affairs leaders are more satisfied than those at entry and mid-level.
