Accomplishing Purpose: Mission Alignment in Christian Higher Education Institutions
John M. Troyer
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Regent University
Higher education is a vital component of society; it fulfills the role of transmitting knowledge and developing an educated citizenry. Christian higher education institutions (CHEIs) are a unique element of the educational landscape that seeks to develop the whole person based upon the truth as found in the Bible. This process is guided through individualized mission statements that define the purpose of each CHEI. Within the current and yet ever-changing climate of society, the unique mission of each Christian college or university faces significant influences and challenges from both internal and external elements that would seek to threaten the mission. Within this context, it is vital for the institutions to fully align with their mission. The purpose of this study was to understand how effective these unique institutions are in aligning their operations with their mission through the use of key documents, such as the college catalog, curriculum, and institutional objectives.
