Aswan Holmes
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Concordia University Chicago
Through web-based communication, technology has made experiencing other cultures in different parts of the world more accessible. The purpose of this study is to understand the effect of social networking sites on millennials of Carolina State Council of Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. Modern technology, in particular social networking site usage, changes the way people communicate and connect. Digital technology changes how knowledge is received. From the lens of the social identity theory, the researcher was able to examine the role social networking site usage has on members of religious ingroups and outgroups. The purpose of this quantitative correlational study was to determine the possible relationship that exists between religious engagement, religious participation, religious experience, and religious intellect on social networking site usage among millennials in Carolina State Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. A total of 42 millennials (ages 18-37) who were members of the Carolina State Council were surveyed. Findings from the study indicated that social networking site usage is not a significant predictor of religious engagement, religious participation, religious experience, and religious intellect on social networking site usage among millennials in Carolina State Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. The results of this study indicate that more research is needed to determine what other religious variables predict religiosity.
