Sabrina Marie Francis
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Evangel University
Teacher attrition is a significant concern for many districts. Teachers cite leaving the profession for a variety of reasons. These high attrition rates have a negative impact on rural districts, creating a loss of experience and respect for the profession. The purpose of this study is to explore perceptions of leadership support and Grow Your Own programs in connection with teacher retention and recruitment. The theoretical framework used to design the study was Social Learning Theory, Self-Efficacy Theory, and Transformational Leadership Theory. The research questions sought to consider the perceptions of teachers and administrators regarding leadership support and job satisfaction. The design of the study collected perceptions through surveys, interviews, and a focus group. Data and discussion of the findings would benefit rural district leaders seeking leadership development and specific strategies that support teacher retention.
