Mentoring New Faculty at a Christian University in the Northwest: A Program Assessment
Janet Stellway
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
This study focused on an assessment of a formal mentoring program at a Christian university in the northwest. The research design employed surveys and interviews with both mentees and mentors. The survey of mentees used a series of measures to assess mentor inputs (career-related support, psychosocial support, and faith support) and mentoring outcomes, including commitment, trust, relationship effectiveness and met expectations. The survey of mentors examined reciprocal career-related support, psychosocial support and faith support that mentors received from their mentees and mentoring outcomes that included commitment, trust, relationship effectiveness and career revitalization in the form of new learning. Correlation analysis suggested that improved inputs could result in improved outcomes. Follow-up interviews with a sample of both mentees and mentors identified strengths and weaknesses and offered specific recommendations for program improvement. Many expressed a desire to have the program continue. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
