The Relationship between Teacher Language Use and Student Performance and Behavior in the Foreign Language Classroom
Angela Burrell
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
This study investigated if a relationship existed between teacher language use in the foreign language classroom and student proficiency, student to teacher rapport, and teacher preparedness by their university program or district trainings. The researcher used a language use questionnaire data, pre- and posttest data, and focus group responses to obtain quantitative and qualitative data. A series of ANOVAs and Chi square tests were used to determine if relationships existed between the variables. Due to limitations, student-specific data was not available to make any certain determination. However, the researcher was able to make recommendations for future research and for supports that could assist teachers in reaching maximum target language use to support student growth.
