P-12 Instructional Coaches: Their Practices, Challenges, and Recommendations
Reginald Lanard Wright
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
The central purpose for this dissertation in practice was to explore the practices, challenges, and recommendations of P-12 instructional coaches in a mid-sized public-school district in the state of Texas regarding job efficacy and factors that influence attrition. This phenomenological study involved 10 instructional coaches with at least one full year of coaching experience. Participants were interviewed separately in one-on-one interviews. The results of this dissertation in practice show that while P-12 instructional coaches are dedicated to their roles in teacher development, they need support for challenges they face. In personal interviews, participants offered possible solutions to the issues that effective instructional coaches encounter. The study concludes with a detailed framework for a mentorship program designed specifically for instructional coaches.
