Roughly one in four adults in the United States have some type of disability. In the general workforce, individuals with disabilities that are of working age are employed at less than half the rate when compared to individuals without disabilities. Despite this, the unemployment rate for individuals with disabilities is more than double that of individuals without disabilities. In STEM, this disparity is even more staggering. Blending research from social psychology, and disability research, this study aims to create an educational workshop that explores the contributing factors to the lack of representation in STEM while providing a safe space to discuss what can be done to begin breaking down barriers in STEM. Expert evaluators (n = 10) were tasked to assess the workshop content and materials to determine the appropriateness and usefulness of the curriculum in the research design. Results were unanimously positive, with evaluators finding the workshop a valuable resource for not only educators but any employer or organization that works with individuals with disabilities. The findings indicate that there is a crucial need to support educators, employers, and organizations that work with individuals with disabilities with providing appropriate accommodations to adequately support individuals of all abilities to pursue educational opportunities and a future career in STEM.
