Moving from Surviving to Thriving: An Exploratory Study of Teacher Burnout
Michelle N. Grace
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Regent University
The purpose of this quantitative study was to illuminate teacher burnout, its causes and effects, and determine if there was a relationship between teacher burnout and spirituality practices as well as a relationship between burnout and educator career level, hoping to recommend ways to decrease those effects in the workplace. The Maslach Burnout Toolkit for Educators combined the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Educators Survey with the Areas of Worklife Survey to quantify what in the worklife experience might be causing burnout symptoms. The FACIT-SP Non-Illness survey quantified a person's spiritual well-being by evaluating three dimensions: meaning, peace, and faith (Cella, 2010). Of the tested hypotheses, both exhibited some statistical significance. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
