Evidence-Based Interventions to Address Social-Emotional Development in Preschool Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in an Educational Setting: A Comprehensive Literature Review
Cassidy Miller Oliver
ProQuest LLC, Psy.D. Dissertation, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology
This project critically evaluates the existing research conducted on the effectiveness of evidence-based interventions designed to promote the social and emotional development in preschool children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The purpose of this study is to identify evidence-based interventions for children ages three to six years with autism spectrum disorder that promote socio-emotional development and are implemented in the school setting. The study will inform clinicians, medical professionals, families of children with ASD, and educational institutions about the existing interventions available for implementation and the benefits of these interventions for children across settings. An ecological systems theory approach will be applied to analyze the interventions based on their personal characteristics, consideration of the reciprocal processes between child and context, consideration of the multiple contexts in which a child operates, as well as their ecological validity (real-world application).
