This dissertation-in-practice was designed to identify parental understanding of Internet addiction and technology usage among parents within a middle school in Velden, Austria. Research shows how important a parent's role is in preventing adolescent Internet addiction and the need to guide parents in helping their children find a positive balance within this digital world. One-on-one interviews provided data to identify how parents see technology being used among their children and what is needed for a parental training workshop that best helps parents and guardians improve their way of addressing Internet usage and identifying Internet addiction? Using one-on-one interviews, data was collected from nine parents of adolescents, along with an extensive literature review. Results of the study revealed a lack of understanding of the significance of this problem and ways to address it within the family. Findings showed the importance of getting parents involved and educated on the changing brain of the adolescent and the lasting impacts these addictive behaviors may have.
