ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Amridge University
This qualitative case study investigated the challenges Information Technology (IT) professionals faced in Higher Education Organizations (HEOs) during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic brought unforeseen challenges and technological disruptions to HEOs, significantly impacting IT professionals. The study aimed to deepen the understanding of these challenges and their effects on IT professionals' roles. It explored how they navigated and responded to the rapid shift to online education and remote work. The research involved semi-structured interviews with approximately 5 IT professionals, providing an in-depth analysis of their experiences. This approach aimed to create a comprehensive picture of the difficulties faced, including physical and mental stress, and the innovative solutions IT professionals developed in response. The findings contribute valuable insights into IT professionals' critical yet often overlooked role in HEOs, highlighting their importance in ensuring operational continuity and developing strategies for future crises. This study addressed a gap in existing research and underscored the need for further understanding and support for IT professionals in HEOs, who play a pivotal role in managing technological infrastructure and facilitating educational processes under challenging circumstances.
