Humanities Faculty Perceptions of Learning Outcomes Assessment at a Regional Comprehensive University
Joshua Wilkey
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, The University of Alabama
This study examines perceptions of student learning outcomes assessment by Humanities faculty members at a regional comprehensive university. Participants from History, English, and Philosophy and Religion departments were interviewed about their perceptions of assessment. The results were that Humanities faculty members hold both positive and negative perceptions of assessment. Positive perceptions are driven by receipt of feedback and potential improvement in teaching and learning. Negative perceptions are driven by lack of feedback on submitted assessment, uncertainty about the purpose of assessment, and concerns about the institution's process for learning outcomes assessment.
