Authentic leadership is a relatively new concept in leadership literature with little empirical research in educational settings and within the realm of information technology professionals. Authentic leadership is slated to be a form of leadership that yields positive follower and organizational outcomes. Researching authentic leadership and job satisfaction among information technology (IT) professionals contributes to the body of leadership literature by providing further insight into what authentic leadership dimensions predict greater job satisfaction. The purpose of this quantitative correlational research was to see if a significant relationship existed between authentic leadership and job satisfaction among information technology professionals in educational settings for members in the global online social media LinkedIn network. This current study investigated the relationship between the IT follower's perception of their leader's authentic leadership, described as the four dimensions a) self-awareness; (b) relational transparency; (c) balanced processing; and (d) internalized moral processing and job satisfaction by using the Authentic Leadership Inventory (ALI) and the Mohrman-Cooke-Mohrman Job Satisfaction Scale (MCMJSS). A total of 44 IT professionals in educational settings completed the online survey via LinkedIn. The results of the study indicated that all the independent variables were correlated to job satisfaction. The strongest correlations overall were between the total authentic leadership score and the total job satisfaction score and also between self-awareness and job satisfaction. The dimension of self-awareness was the highest predictor of job satisfaction. The results suggested that the higher the self-awareness score, the higher the job satisfaction score.
