Perspectives on Truancy Interventions
Jack (Jack) Mills
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Holy Family University
This qualitative study gathered the perspectives of public school superintendents on truancy interventions. The study sample consisted of five school superintendents employed within five New Jersey Public School Districts and included four males and one female with a minimum of twenty-five years of experience in public school settings. Each superintendent was interviewed and given opportunities to share their experiences in addressing truancy. Findings indicated that actions including addressing inadequate staffing, establishing positive communication with all stakeholders in the school community, and affirmative outreach with home visits could potentially have the greatest impact on reducing truancy.
