Amy Clark
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Doane University
The purpose of this qualitative research study is to explore how elementary principals describe, plan for, measure, interpret, and use perception data to make decisions to build a positive school climate within the school improvement process. Five participants were selected based on the criterion of being an elementary principal within the school district selected and must have current perception data from the District's created "perception survey" from students, parents, and staff. This basic qualitative research study focused on the collection of qualitative data through interviews during the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year. Interview data was reviewed, coded and classified into themes. Five common themes emerged: School Climate is a Feeling, Collaboration, Communication, Strategies Used to Build Positive School Climate, and Adaptations during a Pandemic. Participants provided strategies used to analyze data and develop action plans to aid in the development of a positive school climate.
