Correlation between the Flourishing and Technology Readiness of Doctoral Learners across the United States
Remilyn Mueller
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
The purpose of this quantitative correlational associative study was to examine if, and to what extent, there was a significant relationship between the flourishing and technology readiness of doctoral learners across the United States. This study utilized the Well-being Theory or PERMA model and Technology Readiness Theory as the theoretical foundations. Three research questions with corresponding hypotheses focused on the correlation of flourishing with technology readiness, motivators of technology readiness, and inhibitors of technology readiness. A sample of 214 participants who were members of social media groups for doctoral learners across the United States were used in the data analysis to correlate the variables. The survey instrument included the informed consent form, screening questions, demographics, and survey questions from both the Flourishing Measure, and Technology Readiness Index 2.0 instruments. The results of Spearman's correlation revealed that flourishing and technology readiness has no significant relationship at (r[subscript s] [212] = 0.149, p = 0.030). However, there was a weak correlation between flourishing and the motivators of technology readiness at (r[subscript s] [212] = 0.170, p = 0.013). On the other hand, flourishing and the inhibitors of technology readiness has no significant relationship at (r[subscript s] [212] -0.059, p = 0.390). These findings have significant implications for those who design, develop, and implement the systems in doctoral programs.
