Today's work environment can be described as disorganized, hectic, and confused, given displacement with more people working at home because of the COVID 19 influence. A strain on the leader-follower exchange exists. A maturing field of management study is spiritual leadership. The purpose of this quantitative comparison study was to measure if, or to what extent there was a difference in calling, membership, commitment, and productivity for employees whose academic administrator did or did not exemplify spiritual leadership in a university setting in the United States. The research questions guiding the study included: To what extent do practices of spiritual leadership by academic administrators, create differences on followers' calling and membership, and to what extent does the spiritual leadership influence follower commitment, and productivity? Data sets from four universities were merged and resulted in a sample size of N = 148 participants however, when scrubbed the sample size was N = 124. Assumptions were tested and independent samples t-test were conducted for p values evidencing statistically significant differences between the two groups. RQ1, showed p < 0.05, reflecting a significant difference in calling between the two groups. RQ 2 found p < 0.001, showing a significant difference in employee membership. RQ3, p < 0.001, also showed a difference in commitment between the groups. RQ 4, concluded there is a significant difference in productivity for employees, p < 0.001. Administrators that display spiritual leadership may explain higher amounts of employee calling, membership, commitment, and productivity.
