Combating Learning Loss: Impact of Accelerated Learning on STAAR Algebra I Scores in a Rural High School in Southeast Texas
Wayne Stephenson
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Lamar University - Beaumont
The purpose of this study was to determine the impacts of a specific accelerated learning program on STAAR Algebra I End of Course exam scores for students who had previously failed the exam. The accelerated learning program, titled STAAR Acceleration, was intended to help students who had experienced school closures because of COVID-19 improve their performance on the STAAR Algebra 1 End of Course exam. The STAAR Acceleration program consisted of three platforms and met all the requirements of House Bill 4545. The data was used to determine which platform was the most effective in improving performance on the end of course exam. The findings of this study will help schools determine which types of interventions should be continued and which ones should be removed. The findings also add to the body of research regarding effectiveness of accelerated learning in aiding in recovering learning loss.
