McMillan-Dorman, Stephanie Michelle. Examining the Relationship Between Middle School Students' Participation on i-Ready Computer Adaptive Tests and Math Achievement Scores (Under the direction of Theodore Kaniuka, Ed.D.) Despite over 50 years of effort, educators have witnessed a multiplicity of educational reforms make little to no effect on increasing students' math achievement and close achievement gaps. However, the achievement gaps still remain (Downey, 2019). As an answer to the call, The Department of Education's Office of Educational Technology developed "The National Education Technology Plan 2010," which focus on utilizing technology as a means to personalize learning through computer adaptive tests. This study provides an in-depth review of literature focusing on Educational and math Educational Reforms, national and state performance data, personalized learning along with personalized learning utilizing technology. This independent study examined if middle school students' participation on i-Ready computer adaptive tests (CAT), was related to their North Carolina math achievement scores. Data appear to support as students' i-Ready score increase by 1 unit, then their End of the Grade Test score will increase. If students spend an additional hour usage per week on i-Ready for a school year, it is predicted to increase students' math achievement scores. The implementation of a structured and non-structured setting for incorporating i-Ready also contributes to an increase in students End of Grade Test Scores. The results of this study maybe beneficial to students, teachers, administrators, central office personnel and government officials and offer an independent unbiased view of the true effectiveness or impact i-Ready has on math achievement.
