Examining Pre-Service Teachers' Development of Self-Efficacy for Engaging with Diverse Families
Monique Sydney Cohn
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Florida
When teachers develop strong and effective partnerships with families, children experience significant benefits (see for example, Anthony, Williams, Zhang, Landry, & Dunkelberger, 2014; Fan & Chen, 2001; Henderson & Mapp, 2002; Jeynes, 2007; Weiss, Lopez, & Rosenberg, 2010). However, collaborating with families remains an area in which teachers, particularly young teachers, struggle greatly. This difficulty is compounded by the demographic differences between the predominantly middle-class White educators who graduate from educator preparation programs and the increasingly diverse population of children in American schools. This study aims to examine pre-service teachers' development of self-efficacy in regard to working with diverse families.
