Children's exposure to technology primarily depends on parental decisions concerning when and how to introduce them to technology and some parents are not aware of the dangers on cognitive and social growth. However, there are significant research gaps on the factors that influence parental decisions on introducing preschool-aged children to technology. The purpose of this research is to explore the influence of parenting styles on the parental decisions concerning technology access by their preschool-aged children. A qualitative method utilizing a descriptive design was used to collect the data from 40 parents with preschool-aged children. The descriptive data revealed authoritative (n = 20), permissive (n = 12), and authoritarian (n = 8) parenting styles, from which five of each style participated in interviews. Inductive thematic analysis of the transcript data revealed five emergent themes regarding how parents choose mobile applications for their preschool-age children based on their parenting style: a) parents express different degrees of concern about age appropriateness of the app when selecting mobile apps for their children; b) parents expressed different concern for educational potential of apps when selecting mobile apps for their children; c) parents conduct different degrees of research when selecting mobile apps for their children; d) parents conduct different levels of concern about safety when selecting mobile apps for their children; and e) parents conduct different levels of concern about the type of mobile applications when selecting mobile apps for their children.
