Training for Children's Online EFL Teachers: An Exploration of Strategies Developed by Those in the Field
Rozina Gallegos
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Arizona Global Campus
The branch of language education that works online with young learners is explained to address the problem of a developing sector that currently needs acknowledgment and applicable research. The research problem explores how Online English as a Foreign Language (OEFL) teachers describe the professional training strategies and support required to teach children effectively. Using a qualitative holistic exploratory single case study method, eight OEFL teachers of young learners were interviewed through open-ended questions to gain insight into their lived experiences training and working in that position. Thematic analysis was used to organize and analyze data. Results include data-supported answers to the research questions and recommendations for OEFL companies to provide teacher training and support. Suggestions for further research include topics focused on teachers of OEFL with young learners, OEFL companies, and young learners in OEFL.
