The Impact Human Relations Has on a Public Education Institution's Staff: The Necessity of a 360-Degree Review Process
James Earl Smithwick
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Aspen University
In the United States, the K12 public school district's task is educating our country's youth. This task is supported by educators, bus drivers, maintenance and construction staff, information technology staff, financial staff, and executive staff, to mention a few of the district features that support our educational responsibilities to our youth. The results of this education hinge upon the comfort level of the environment created by the implemented human resource-employee communication methodology. The working environment created by these intra-organizational communications develops the district staff culture, which impacts the development of a healthy learning environment. This research examined the root creation of this environment by examining the employee's understanding and feelings about their HR experiences. Discovering the experiences of a randomly selected group of school district employees was completed using a Likert survey. The design of this tool adds to the existing human resource management tools to help understand the effectiveness of their communication techniques. At the same time, the implementation supplied the necessary data, which concluded that HR had challenges that a 360-degree review process could resolve. Expanding the available information on HR interaction allows the dismantling of destructive, cynical employee behavior whose root cause may start with the HR representative's preconceived ideologies of employee interaction. Informatively revising these HR behaviors starts with understanding how the employees feel about their interactions and end with a better learning environment for our students.
