This dissertation suggests that student wellness will improve if signs or symptoms are recognized earlier. This dissertation critically analyzed the current literature and provided a basis for further research and future development of a theory that would maximize the various relationships students develop while on campus with faculty and staff. This dissertation concluded that when higher education institutions address public stigma, there is a positive impact on a student's perception that can boost help-seeking behaviors. It concludes that faculty and staff can effectively impact students' wellness when trained to recognize signs and symptoms earlier. This dissertation serves as a basis for new preventative measures focusing on faculty and staff training. This dissertation also highlights the current gaps in prevention literature and suggests further research.
